where can i find a map of lakes that has gps coords on it? also i have a GARMIN ETrex Legend, it takes like 10 min. to link up and still only gets an accuracy at best to 30 feet with an average of 60 ft. this means theres a 60 ft daimeter circle i could be in right? has anyone else had experience with this unit, when i use it outside on the ice how will the reception be?

heh, that makes me feel better as I'm getting one of those too. How much did you pay and where did you get?

I believe that Lake Master or HotSpots maps give gps coordinates to help you find spots. I think that some paper maps include info also.

Actually click on the link above the main forum to see a link to sponsors that sell maps and the software you need.

I have a Etrex legend (for about 3 years now and I love it. I Also have some GPS software form Lakemaster (leech lake version)1ft contours and the rest of the minnesota lakes are 5 ft contours.) It is simple to use and now you can buy them for around $150. The Lake master software was 99 when I bought it but could be cheaper now. It works really slick. Load the software hook up the GPS (you may have to buy a USB to parallel converter depending on the kind of computer you have.) You can research a lake you want to fish, plot some point that look good to you and download them to the Legend. Or you can do it the other way. If you out on the lake you can mark some spots where you caught fish and download those point on to your computer and see exactly where you where on the lakemap.... It couldn't be better. Any questions? Good luck!

I really like my Legend, but haven't tried it yet for maps. Someday I'll wander into the 21st century, but they're still a little expensive for my taste yet.

10 minutes to link up? Don't know why that would be. Step outside of your house, mine never takes longer than 20-30 seconds when I'm out on a lake & is usually within 18-20 feet accurate.
