Problem with LX-i handheld

I just purchaced a LX-i handheld. It seemed to want to always read 3' when I was actually in 20'. I had to move it around 5-6 diffent locations, turn it off again-on again to finally get it to read. finally I took out my old "green box" and had no problem at all reading in the same spots I could not with the LX-i. Keep in mind that I had very clear ice that was only 6-7" thick and I was pouring water on the ice like I normally do with the "green box"

Is this as good as it gets for the LX-i? Any replys would be great.

When electronics, which encludes, vex, marcon, or any battery operated equipment does;t seem to work right, replace the batterys, make sure they are put in right too.I have gotten bad batterys in cartons of new ones, I like the batterys that have the power check on the side of them so I can make sure they are good. Hope this helps, nothing worse than getting to the lake and finding out you have a dead or low charged battery, ruines the whole day.

Were you using a bit of water on the ice? Are you suppose to be using a bit of water?

My LX-i will read 3.2 feet if the surface of the transducer gets coated with ice. Just wipe it off on your pant leg after each reading. Works just fine with a little water if you keep it clean.

I know the guy where I got the battery from and he said the batteries were all new that week. You may be right Ray about the ice on the the transducer end. It was cold out that day. Thanks
