Fax Machines

Could you guides or other self-employed guys tell me what I need here. I only have one phone line in the house and I need to hook up a fax machine capable of receiving faxes when I am not at home to answer the phone. Any ideas?

Any fax these days will work that you get from Office Max ar target. You just have to set it up if you have an answering mode. I have an home office and use a Fax/printer/scaner all in one it is a HP office jet

Even though you have one phone line, most lines into a house actually have two lines. You can pay for the second line.

The most economical way to go is to see if your phone company offers distinctive ring. This way you can receive faxes with your home phone number. Your fax will detect the distinctive ring and answer the fax. I have one phone line coming into my house and have:

1. Home phone #

2. Office phone # with distinctive ring.

Call your phone company, they can assist as well

Lawman I have 1 line coming into my home but have what you call a teen line which has its own number but rings with the distinctive ring. The fax machine then picks it up. That way you have a seperate fax #. I would think most any Phone company should be able to do this. It has worked well for me.

Thanks guys. Does the phone company charge extra for these distinctive rings? How much?

Lawman I can't remember for sure without looking it up but I think it's about 5 bucks a month
