LuciandTim
A Minnesota pheasant hunter took his son to South Dakota to do a little shooting. There were birds everywhere but all of the good fields were posted "No Trespassing." Being a good law abiding pheasant hunter (as surely all Minnesota pheasant hunters are) the man left his son by their car and went to the farm house to ask the farmer if they might hunt in his fields. He assured the farmer that no damage would be done to his fields or fences, and the farmer said that he would allow the hunting in his fields, if the hunter would do him a favor. "You see that old horse over there by your car?. Well, he's old, and he's on his last leg. I have to put him down But he's sort of a family pet, and I can't bring myself to shoot him. Will you shoot him for me?" The hunter agreed, and as he was walking back to his car, he decided to play a joke on his son. As he approached the car his son asked, "Well, can we hunt the fields?" The man pretended to be angry, and responded "You know these farmers, they won't let anybody hunt here. It makes me so mad, I could...I could...", and in a fury he ucased his gun and walked over to the horse and shot it dead. To his surprise, he heard additional gunshots behind him. He turned around and saw his son standing with a smoking barrel, "You got his horse, I got his cow! Now, let's get out of here!"
fishin5
That is not a joke! It really happened!. Instead of father and son, it was Micky Mantel and Billy Martin. Micky took Billy hunting at a ranch that he hunted all the time. Mick asked permission and the guy asks him to put down an old mule for him mick says sure and pulls the joke on Billy. Of course you can imagin the substances those two had imbibed in before going out....

Ely Lake Expert
My dad actually did that to his brothers when he was younger. He went to the farmer and asked himself. The farmer did not want to shoot his horse so he asked my dad to, but he did not tell his brothers. When my dad walked by and shot the horse, his brothers took off running. He found them 3/4 of a miles down the road going the other way. Then he told them the farmer asked him to do it.That is what he told me at least.Ryan
FOOT
I would like to meet you father, he must be almost as good a BSer as myself, no offense. It's just that I've heard this story with various scenarios for over 40 years but no one can provide me the name of the farmer. It sure doesn't hurt to keep the legend going though. I have to admit I've told a couple tales myself that were used to get reactions from the listeners. And who better to perpetuate tall tales then hunters and fishermen.
