FISHGRAPPLER
Hey John19, Leaving from Westminster. If your interested can meet almost anywhere along I-70 or I-25. Is'nt there a park and ride or place to park, just off I-25 and Hwy 34, on the northwest side of that junction?

FISHGRAPPLER
Made it up to John Sat. Spent the night Fri. at the Round-up. Got to the lake about 6:30. Drilled my first hole in about 15', dropped my jig and caught a 14" cut. Fished at that spot about 30 minutes and then worked into shallower water. Set up the shelter and started sight fishing in about 10', caught 8 nice rainbows, got broke off once (bad knot), and had many other strikes. Great fishing for about an hour. Then about 4 vehicles pulled up and started fishing all around me, within 100'. Come on guys there is a whole lake, why do some people have to do this? Fishing slowed to about a strike every 45 min. to an hour. I have found that when you are fishing in shallower water, with bright sun shine, shadows and movement can really spook the fish. Great day sun shine and no wind. Guess I should'nt complain, I should have moved. Good fishing for a little while.
RockyMtnIce
Hey Grappler, I was up there Saturday as well. Where did you fish? We fished around the north boat ramp, and did real good. Luckily, we didn't have to deal with others like you. We started out in 10-12' in the a.m. and once the bite slowed, moved to 17'. Caught fish pretty regular all day, but moved to 14' right before sunset and got busy. Took a newbie on this trip, and she is hooked. She's already asking when the next trip will be. Gotta Love Ice Fishing!!!
FISHGRAPPLER
I was fishing about 1/4 mile south, of the north boat ramp, just off the west road.
Chewy
I fished Lake John Wednesday, December 29th in a snow storm. The ice was 12 " thick. I purchased a new ice shack (the Ice Trap Yukon) and wanted to try it out. I purchased a Frabil XL Twin a couple of years ago and haven't been real pleased with it. This new Yukon is really well thought out. This should be the last sled/tent I'll purchase. What a great day to break it in. It snowed from 6:30AM and continued to snow when we left at noon. We fished off the spillway in 16 foot of water (about 50 yards off shore) and three of us caught our limits. We fished right off the bottom with my hand tied jigs tipped with waxies (hot pink head, chartruse chanelle body and purple died Pheasent tail with flash glitter). They would only hit dead sticking, if you even nugged the bait they would dart off (very easily spooked). The largest fish was a 21" Cut-bow, and we caught 4, 19-20 inch Cutthrouts that were just beautiful!! Big red gill plates and all. The five year old we had with us had the time of his life. He caught two beautiful rainbows each about 16 - 17". He knows how to read the Vexlar, sets the hook and reels in his own fish! The boy amazes me. Had a great fish fry when we returned to Granby, a good time was had by all!
