clam 5600/or similar help

Dano2

Question

what could I use on the rods that slide up and down, what kind of lube, they are a real pain in my butt, plus that little lock button, I need to push it in with a needle nose, or screwdriver, or something to get them to pop in when takeing the house down,

Thanks

My 5600 doesn't even have the little ball that you push in. You could probably take it out. I have no clue how old mine is, but there were never any of those locking balls in there. For the poles that go together I'd bet that lube won't help much the best bet would be some emory cloth or sand paper to take the edge down.

I use a silicone spray once a year, works well. Others use Remington gun oil, etc. Avoid anything that leaves a residue. I drag a light sand paper across them first to clean up anything that hinders the "slide".

As for the push button, see if you can get at it from the inside and strighten it out. I had one that was hanging up, played around with it, pliers and silicone, and now it's been fine.

Do you have an older Clam 5600 with the square in square tubing frame. I had that and really srtuggled with it for years. Clam redesigned the frame about 3 or 4 years ago. I retrofitted my old unit with the new frame for $65.00. What a world of difference! Up or down in about two minutes or less.

ya, its the square in square style tubing. Its funny, this last fall, I had done a little sanding on the corners, and the tubes seemd like they had plenty of play, but after the first time out, I have to bang the dump out of them again to get em to go down, I'll try some of the sugestions, maybe even take the 4" grinder after it a little . .

Kslipsinker, where did you purchase that new style frame at? how does it differ?

thanks
