homerj
I'm planning on buying either a vex fl-8 or fl-18. Since these are very portable and expensive units, is there any reason to worry about a group of 'fisherman' hassling or try to take the unit? I usually fish alone. Has anyone else thought about this?
TV BOY
WATCH OUT FOR GANGS ON THE ICE!!! you can identify icefishing gangs by their colors: the Blazers (blaze orange) the Carharts (brown) the ice team (blue) Just kidding I thought I was the most paranoid person! I have never given that a thought. I'm too worried about someone breaking into my truck while I'm fishing.
magnum165
homerj.I wouldn't think so, but if you did you might want to find some new areas to fish!I've never had or heard of anyone having problems while they were fishing.Anyhow, you will be very impressed with either unit and if nothing else power augers are sharp!!!Jkidding,Good Luck and nail em'. Jeremy airjer W
I think you'll find most everyone you encounter will give you at least a friendly nod. Most people will say hello, and some will talk your ear of. Just remeber, they're thinking the same thing about you that your thinking about them. I'm always more concerned about my stuff getting stolen on land rather than the water!

icehousebob
I've never heard of anyone being forcefully robbed on the lake, but I've heard of lots of fishhouses, sleds, and trucks being robbed while no one was looking. Had a guy show up at my permanent house one night to see how the fishing was. The whole while he talked, he never looked at me, only at the gear I was using and the stuff on the shelves. I had been thouroughly cased. Anything of value that was there went home with me that night.
klbowe
Most crimes on the ice occur when cowards / scumbags break into permanent shelters and destroy the house or steal what is in it. This usually occurs when there are no fishermen around. I have not heard of any one being robbed face to face on the ice so you "PROBABLY" have little to worry about.I think most of our crooks would be too lazy to walk out and steal a VEX and those who would drive out would risk you recording their license plate.I think your Vex should be safe !However if you decide to purchase a Marcum you may want to consider getting a Concealed Carry permit to protect you investment or hiding it in a brown paper bag so no one is tempted. wink-wink

hawkeye43
you could set in trap in your area by drilling 10" holes all around for them to step in. man we need ice soon!!!!
The Grebe
Don't give anyone any ideas!! I've never heard of it happening, never thought about it until now, but I can see where it could happen! Hell, if they use fish houses as meth labs, hey anything is possible...thats it for me, no more Mr. Nice guy! When I head out to do some sunnies on one of my favoite lakes, I'm gonna be strapped! My 9, my ankle rig and my drop gun are going with me! I'm gonna be cocked, locked and ready to rock, if someone tries to boost my minnow money! 89Bronco
I've never heard of someone being forced to hand over stuff, but we've been taken before. A friend of mine lost an auger one time on Mille Lacs. We were in the portable and heard a snowmobile pulling up. We figure it's one of our buddies or the CO. Well, it pulled right next to the fish house, slowed down and sped away....with the auger! Now one of us always steps out when we hear someone approaching. Ed Carlson
Aliens like to abduct Vexilars. Mostly at night. So if your dial starts to spin backwards...RUN!
