outdoormaster
How did you all do this weekend? I got big nothing
JerknPerchSD
Had a great shoot mallards and honkers. killed a five man limit of both on Saturday. Birds worked awesome and we called the shots at around 10 yards. Hunted a small pond that the birds were keeping open. Put out roughly 3 dozen bigfoot floaters, 90 hardcore full bodies, and 2 dozen mallards and the best part is that we used no spinners.
JerknPerchSD
Sunday also went well. Had a decent field for honkers. 4 of us killed 9 (not a limit but still a blast) We used 130 hardcore full bodies and really worked the birds well. Birds worked great and we called shots at under 15 yards. Ripped 2 small flocks and then the rest of the birds came in one giant group of probably 200 birds. We could have filled but decided not to mess up a flock that big. Here is a pic of my limit with a monster.

IceHawk
Nice pictures, SD is a waterfowlers dream I envy you guys.Perch I can't wait for spring to chase those snows through your state. How do you like your hardcores? I have always thought about getting a few of those to add to my spread. As far as the late season geese they got the better of us so far. I had alot of flocks scouted but they have been moveing fields and roosts theres just to much water, and there patterns are changeing daily. Three of us had a field spotted that they have been useing and tonight we went to set up for them. Upon arriveing to our field to set up for a evenig hunt to our amazement we found the birds already there and pitching in as we arrived. I guess those birds one the game tonight but we left in anticipation of tommorows hunt just hope the geese cooperate tommorow.

Sartell Angler
geez SD- you guys don't mess around! You guys obviously put more money and work into the hunt than most guys and are rewarded accordingly. We have had our fair share of hunts this year, but nothing like you show us day in and day out. Good job only shooting the green too.Sartell Angler/ WDW
JerknPerchSD
Waterfowling is my way of life. I eat, breathe, and sleep it. I also am very lucky to have a very fun and knowlegable group of guys to hunt with. Hunting with a 3 time state duck champ as well as a 2 time state goose champ dosn't hurt any either. If any of you ever draw a SD waterfowl license I'd be happy to take some guys out in exchange for some inside information on where to ice fish some giant 'gills in MN. Anyway, as a side note, we killed another 25 greenies tonight and I will post pics when I get them. Tommarrow is the last day for ducks in SD, so I'll be out for the last time. Hope it goes well.Andy
SlabSlayer21
Definetally something worth picturing. That is a great pile of greenheads their. The floaters in the background look nice as well. Looks like the rest of your season will be covered in waterfowl.
Flash
Isn't the season still open or will open in the western half of the state?
PLfisherman
Jerkenperch I have been watching your posts to see what new pictures are going to be up next. You guys sure can kill the mallards. I live in minnesota in the twin cities. Do you go to school at SDSU I know some kids out there. I live to waterfowl hunt as well. I could show you some bull gills any time. I ice fish almost every day that i can if only we would get some ice this year. I will be out every day huntin late season geese when this semister of school is done. I will try to post some of our goose pictures. we have killed a lot this year there are a ton around our metro area. keep hammering those mallards. p.s.(Our group calls our selves the meat grinders because we use foils calls and we think we kill so many birds , but I think you guys better take over that title)
JerknPerchSD
I do go to SDSU. I am a Wildlife and fisheries major. I'm thinking about taking next semester off because I want to buy a bigger decoy trailer and more hardcores for next fall. Wonder what the parents would say to that one? Anyway, our duck season closed yesterday. We got in one decent last hunt. Hunted another pasture pond where we killed 15 drakes and 9 snows. Again my digital cam was dead so I wont have pics to show for a while. Do you guys have a lot of honks around now? We got a few, but we are still absolutely covered up with mallards. Lots of snows around as well. Good luck to all who are headed out after honkies. Andy

Buckslayer
You can get meat grinders for around $60 anywhere. Otherwise you are looking more in the $150 range. I hate to see people support that @#$#@$#. Have you considered anything else, like Zink, Mann, or Grounds.

JerknPerchSD
I think the bset shortreeds on the maket are Freestlye calls. Very versatile, good range, just awesome sounding. South Dakota state goose was won with a Freestyle.www.freestyleoutdoors.com
TV BOY
I'm going to shoot some Geese with Cory on Monday! I've hunted with him a few times, he's the pied-piper on the short-reed. I have a freestyle pro-comp.
set the drag
If you can find it buy it I blow a bgb fat boy and its the same as the s trait meat honker by foiles. but it has a bgb logo on it and strait meat guts I love this call \and it is tunned in by the best guy on the market Jeff foiles himself tuned it for me and it sounds great. my brother has a zink call that is really nice I think its the paralyzer. my call was $105 on sale reg $159 and my bro paid $139 4 his zink both are well worth it. Chipn' Star
"South Dakota state goose was won with a Freestyle" ...Which means absolutley nothing, MN state was was with a Grounds Poly Supermag the past 3 years. Its all about who is blowing the call. Best advice as far as calls go is to go somewhere that has a lot of em and give each one a test drive. I cant make a Foiles call sound worth a dang, but have buddies that make em sing, and vice versa with calls I own. As far as hunting, went out yesterday, and all I can say is if you are having a tough time, think about toning things down a little. We ran 20 dozen fullbodies and were having a heck of a time getting the birds to finish. They preferred to land with the little groups of 6 or 10 that were landing in the adjacent fields or even a single we winged that landed a ways away. Thinking a dozen or less dekes might be the ticket for anyone not getting the birds to finish.
