fishhollwood
Just bought a Vex-18 with the Ultra Case and upgraded to the Dual ice-ducer. My question is what do people do with the switch box (9/19)? Has anyone tried attaching it to the case or do most people just leave it dangle? I thought about velcroing it to the underside of my Vex, right beneath the vex itself, right above the battery indicator? What do you think? If anyone had any advice I would love some, thanks. Also just bought a Marcum OVS VS500 yesterday, if anyone had any information good or bad regarding that, I would appreciate it. I can not wait!FHD
ozzy
I have the 9/19 and the 12 degree transducers.I do not use the 9/19 any longer. It is to hard to see your bait on 19 in deep water. The 9 seems to narrow to see my bait in shallow water. 12 seems to work best all around.
CSP88
Ozzy, why would you choose to use the 19 in deep water and the 9 in shallow water?? That is the opposite of when you should be using them. Chad
ozzy
With the 19 in shallow water, if there are weeds on the bottom you do not get a true reading. at times I was three to four feet off the bottom and the 19 showed 1 foot, it seemed to regester the tallest weed as the bottom, or I was on a break line.I would switch back and forth in deep water and the 9 would still seem to loose my bait. Who Knows maybe operator error? With the 12 it always seems to work perfect.
ozzy
I should aslo let you know, if you don't let the cable freeze in, you will not have to buy a new one.I also had trouble setting the gain on the 19 .Anyone else have any problems with the 9/19. LocalGuide
I have a 9º/19º ducer on my Fl-18. I havent had any problems yet. I find it useful when fishing in 40' of water and your catching suspended crappies at 20'. You can switch back and fourth between the 9º and 19º. When the crappies are out switch to the 19º to lure them in, once they are in switch back to the 9º. In shallow water I use the 19º and havent had much of a problem with weeds. If the weeds are thick you wont reach bottom, I dont think any unit would. Also I think the Marcum's come w/a 19º ducer as a standard instead of a 12º like Vexilar. Or am I wrong? CNY Tim
The MarCum has 20 deg. transducer
icehousebob
I have the dual transducer and there's no way I would give it up. The 19 degree gets used most of the time, but on deep, bottom-hugging perch and eyes, the 9 degree really shines. Ozzy, you were having trouble getting a reading in shallow, weedy water. Try going to the FL-18's low power setting and drop your gain. That and the 19 degree setting work well for me.
