CSP88
Iceweasel, you could get the dual-beam transducer. I believe it has both the 9 and 19 degree in one transducer.

Ed Carlson
The 9/19 offers the greatest flexibility and convenience so I would go for it right off, if that is an option. You gain greater control on sharp breaking structure, deep water it allows you to focus the cone on the desired area and eliminated dead zones on shallow cluttered or dense structure, lessens overlap of signals in a cluster of on ice electronics. You asked about the Ultra Pack case, yup it is a very cool setup. It is the result of many field testers brainstorming what would be most convenient on the ice. It incorporates a few I was avid to see instituted like the rod holder and the easier access power and cable storage. The case is a bit higher so it will crowd a 5-gal bucket more then the old case. Yet the taller case has it's advantages in easier reading and tuning. The added tackle tray is a great touch and comes in handy when hole hopping.I love the SE and I really like the features on the FL-18 for deep water pan fishing. Both units are user friendly and highly dependable units. So in the end pick what fits your budget and needs the best.If you can go "whole hog", go for the FL-18 in the ultra Pack with the duel beam, and in my opinion you will have the state of the art in on ice electronic.
