What can anyone tell me about Red Lake. I will be making a trip there in the middle of august. I have never fished the lake before and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have ordered a couple of maps of the lake off of the internet. Are there any muskies or trout in the lake?

Stayed at Red Lake for one point 4 consecutive years. Most of my experience was mainly on the western half of the lake away from the town. Walleye fishing is good, but not great. There are some real monsters out there and if the weather cooperates you should be able to catch plenty. There are big northerns, and lots of them. The fish are everywhere, but the bigger ones are often found in areas you find Walleye. There are very few Muskies, in 4 years we caught one, a small one, in Back Bay. I am not a trout fisherman, but most of my experience for them was done on Red lake. It was outstanding, we couldn't catch one under 10 lbs., they were all big. We used bottom bouncers tipped with as big of minnows as you could find in town. Look for main lake "reefs" that are surrounded by deeper water. Let me know if you need more advice, I can give you spots and techniques that worked, I also know of a musky lake in the area you can go to. My email is [email protected]

I am refering to Red Lake, Ontario. Thanks for all of the info on the lake Brian, it is very much appreciated. I am not exactly sure where the place that we will be staying at is located, we are meeting with the guy on Tuesday to get all of the details. I sent for a couple of maps of the lake and when I receive them I will probably drop you an e-mail. We fish mostly walleye, but will take an afternoon or two to go chase northerns. The trout sound very interesting also. What time of year did you catch the trout? We will be there Sept. 3-8. I have never caught a lake trout, but heard they are a blast. Thanks.

We went to Red Lake 3 years ago, stayed at Sunset Lodge I think. Fishing was not the best and the lake was alot busier than we are used to due to the fact there are a couple of towns right on it. We caught alot of walleyes all were small. I caught the biggest northern of my life in St. Paul Bay - 47". My brother in law caught a 18lb laker fishing near potatoe island. We caught one muskie that was about 18" long. But the lodge owner let us take a boat on a trailer to Flat lake which is full of muskies and nearby to Red Lake. That was way worth the time, small lake with no cabins, I think we caught 4 muskies in 1/2 day with the biggest being 44" but saw others that were closer to 50". We also took boats to a lake that was about 20 acres and loaded with northern, that was pretty fun too.

It was fun there but I don't think we'll go back, just too much civilization for us, but depending on where you are on the lake it might be different.

I will be up at Table Rock lake next week which is connected to Red Lake. Walleye fishing is fantastic we have caught 75-100 fish a day at times. Northerns are also plentiful, never caught a muskie however. We pulled spinners off of bottom bouncers with minnows.

Thanks guys! I looked on a map and found Flat Lake, but I didn't see table rock. Where is it from Red lake? We will be pulling our own boats up there, so if need be we could hop to a different lake if neccessary.

Flat Lake is west of town, I believe there is only one major road that goes west out of town. Once you travel west for something like 4-5 miles, I believe the name of the road you will see is Flat lake Rd. on the right hand side. It is a gravel Rd. the lake is a short ways down on the right hand side if I remember correctly?

If you go to Flat Lake be aware of the landing, I do not know how big of boat you have but I know it was trouble with even the lodges little 14 footers. Two others from our group that went after us actually got stuck there in a mud hole at the launch and had to walk to find help to call our lodge owner to come and pull them out. That was funny as hell! But that was a few years ago so who knows now? I would check with your lodge owner, he probably has info on it. It is definitely woth the effort however.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
