I was up there the second week of June. And yes the water was high and cold. I have been going here for the last 7+ years. As far as the fishing goes it was about normal for walleyes. Not a lot of big fish were caught. I think we had 3 fish over 29 inches. Northerns were not too active the week we were there.

Hey-- Fishon and Jeff B--- have you guys had some good northern action at all up at Misty's?? I am hoping to cast for some big boys... and-- any tips on where to head for the best action?? we are rookies up there and I am taking my Dad and Father-in-law and would love to put them on fish... any insight is much appreciated... I can't wait to get there... thanks for responding...
**also Rodney said the Mayflies had been hatching and he hoped they would be gone in a couple days- what affect would that have on the fishing by next week??

---Rodney seems like a great guy at Misty's... we are staying in the cabin...

I would say the best technique for catching eye's would be jigs and spinners. Colors they tend to favor seems to be chartreuse and blue. You will see the guides jigging the main channels a lot. This year we caught bigger fish by trolling Raps and wally divers. And yes you will have a lot of snags.

Yes high water can make travel easier but you still need to be carfull.

Where is the cabin locate that you crew will be staying at?

As far as I know-- the cabin is right by his main Marina-- it isn't really advertised, Rodney said it's more "word of mouth"... but, you can't beat the prices... seems cheap enough to me... no running water or toilet, but a roof over your head and a bed to sleep in is worth something....

Thanks for the tips on the 'eyes... you sound like you tried quite a bit for the northerns... I am hoping to cast in the bays.. any suggestions there.??. as of right now, I have some suicks, and some Silver Minnows/ Daredevils, etc... ever see any muskies?? would love to run in to one or 2...

To be honest with you I spend more time fishing for eye's than anything. A couple of guys in our crew spend a majority of the week casting for northerns. Any type of Daredevil/spinner will work. I like to use top water spinners.

I have never fished near the Marina not sure what it is like down there. When we go we camp on Indian and fish Indian, Ball, Tide and Dumpy. With the high water there was no problem getting into Dumpy. Dumpy can be a good place to catch some bigger fish both northern and eye's. If you get a chance fish Dumpy cast for northern where the river from Scotty dumps in. Also Dumpy does have Lakers but I sure this time of year they are deep. In June we spend a day or two catching them.

I have not seen a muskie only heard they are around.

Make sure you throw in a couple of clown colored wally divers.

Hey-- thanks Fishon and all you other guys too-- you have made me feel a lot more comfortable heading up... I asssume Rodney will provide me a map of all the lakes you are talking about... any idea how far the marina is from these lakes?? And-- one of the guys in the group we call Stumpy so we will definitely have to hit Dumpy!!! :-)

I am estimating no more than a 10 hour drive.. how far north of the border is it??

Thanks again, sorry for all the questions, but I could talk all day about it...

Not sure what part of the state you are leaving from but 10 hours should put you there. I think it is about 2.5 hr from the border. A lot depends on traffic.

Indian lake is about 7 miles from the Marina and Dumpy is maybe another 5 or so.

Rodney should have maps for you. I know he has some you can purchase.

Good luck fishing. Let me know how you do when you get back. I might be heading up the in August.

In years past we have had some real good northern action. There are plenty of big boys up there. Not sure which of his cabins you will be staying at or where his cabin are located. We have always camped. If you are staying near the marina head up river to Ball lake. We have had the best luck for northerns near the lodge. Also check out Oxalis Bay (not sure of the spelling). It is on the map that Rodney sells for a couple of bucks. The river between Ball and Indian can produce some nice northers especially towards evening.

Rodney is a great guy. He will do anything to make sure you have a great time.

Thanks Fishon--- what were your best techniques for the 'eyes? drifting in the current, trolling?? I am planning on a lot of jigging and using spinners w/ snells, but was curious if I need anything else in my arsenal up there... I have heard to be ready for a lot of snags w/ the rocks... and-- I assume the higher water levels make for easier travel..I am bringing my boat w/ a 150 hp on it-- just have to be careful...

*** I really appreciate the info, you are pumping me up!! glad to hear someone else that's been there too...

This will be my 7th year up there and I have 4 more years reserved already. Rodney is great to deal with and it’s just a great place to go. Normally I try to make it up there in June and again in Aug. but this year it looks like it will be just Aug. for sure and maybe late in Sept.

As for fishing- for the eyes I use jig and minnows or jigs and a chunk of crawler. There are eyes everywhere up there almost. For northern I use the Scenic Hammered Brass and Orange casting spoons. I troll them at 2.2-2.4 mph and 160' behind the boat. We catch a lot of big eyes trolling for northern along the rocks. If your spoon is not bumping the rocks you are either not back far enough or moving to fast. The river on south end of Indian has always produced fish for us including several trophy walleye and some big pike.

This is one of my favorite places to go up there and you will have a blast up there!!!

You will really enjoy yourself up there. We were there in the middle of June. The weather was really horrible, but the eyes cooperated well. We camped on Indian, and mainly fished Dumpy, Scotty, and Tide. To get to these lakes from the Launch, you will have a fairly long boat ride, but it will be worth it. We had luck with Jigs & Leeches. Any bright colored jig seemed to work well. Hit Dumpy at the first point you see on the left when you enter the lake. The size of the eyes was unreal in this lake. Average fish for us was 3-4lbs! Also, on Scotty try the small bay on the far end of the lake (near the fly in area). Make sure that you buy a map from Rodney and if you're not farmiliar with the lakes, watch your depthfinder for shallow areas and rocks.

Walleyeman,

Did you find any lake trout in Dumpy when you fished it. That is supposed to be a great trout lake but I have never tried it. If I make it back up in Sept. that is where I am hoping to fish.

Jeff-
We actually did catch a few lake trout while targeting eyes in Dumpy. I was shocked that the lakers would hit a Jig & Leech! We never specifically targeted them, but would love to try. My guess is that trout fishing would be good out from the inlet to Scotty in the main basin. Good luck in September.

Hey Guys-- Just got back from Misty's... We had a great time-- caught a good amount of fish and was impressed w/ the size (mostly at Maynard Falls) of the walleyes.... Our biggest fish was 25"-- but, I released a bunch over 20 inches, too... the weather was pretty good... got a little windy the last day but mostly hot the other days... We only got to the Falls one day, which was disappointing... the fish were in there... We had the problem w/ never waking up too early to get up there for the morning bite... we also found some beautiful golden walleyes by the white buoy where you turn and head North up the river... South end of Indian was good in the straights there... We had boat trouble one day and the general "getting to know the territory" took some time.. would be much better the next time... Wish I would have taken more time to cast for some Northerns as I had a few nice ones on the times I did try.... Rodney was great, he did a lot of running around for us... I had the most success on Leeches and the bigger fish seemed to come on those.. I primarily used jigs, lipstick jig-- hot pink and white was best for me... My Brother had good luck w/ bottom bouncer and minnows... other boat used a lot of bottom bouncers too.. I just can't get in to fishing w/ those big clunky things.. We probably caught 50-75 per boat per day-- was hoping for a few more #s than that, but I think we would do better now that we know the area better too.. Lots of snags like everyone said.. we had a great time....

Thanks for all the tips.... wish we would have gotten in to Dumpy, we heard some people talk about it too...

Just got back from a 4 day trip. Fishing was great! This was my first trip up there and had a great experience. Got setup on Sat. afternoon at the campsite and went out for the some evening fishing. Didn't take long to catch supper. Sunday we headed up to Maynard Falls and had a really good morning bite. That afternoon fished Tide Lake and the continued to have good fishing. Basically did the same routine the next day but did fish later in the evening closer to camp. Largest fish was 27" with many 22-24". I used crawlers on a spinner or lindy just about the whole time, with some guys in our group only using leeches. Really didn't seem to make a difference. Fish fought hard and tasted great! All ready looking forward to next year.
