How many deer a season

Recommended Posts

I read through all the deer post and alot of you see multiple deers alot. This is going to be my second year of deer hunting and I have done everything you should do or actually what I have read to do while deer hunting and saw only two does in about 30 hrs of sitting in a tree. Which I passed up because I waited for my buck instead. To bad he didnt show up.
I hunt the whitewater wma area and was wondering if it holds good populations of deer. I am taking the whole week off work to get that first deer and I'm sold that I should take that first deer I see. What do you guys think my chances are of seeing a buck? Or should I take whatever I can get?

My father used to hunt the muzzleloader season in the Whitewater WMA and saw lots of deer, and this is after they have benn hunted for 3 months. There is no shortage of deer in that area and there have been some giants taken out of there also.

The answer to the second part of your question sdepends on what season you are hunting, but I think if you have a whole week I would bet you will have multiple opportunities. If you buy a bonus tag, that would solve most of your dilima, then if a doe walks by you can nail her and then hold out for a buck the rest of the week.

The best advice on hunting public lands is to get as far away from other hunters as possible. Think like the deer, where will they go when they get pressured. That area is big enough and if you are willing to work hard you should have sucess. Getting the deer out on the other hand won't be fun, those are some mountains down there.

Hmg.fisher.,

I agree with Stratos. Buy the extra tag and shoot away, if you can. Get away from the crowds and of the beaten paths. Look for the thick stuff near swamps and heavy cover. Be mindful of your shadow and your scent, if you can. Once you have a deer down do NOT leave your gun behind while you gut it. You will see other deer coming while you do that more often than not. If you have the gun near by you will not see anything.

If you spend the time you will get your deer.

good luck and shoot safe and straight!!!

Are you hunting the 3A or 3B season? The bag limits differ depending on what license you have. During 3A, you can take a buck or a deer or either-sex if you were successful in the lottery. The bag limit is 1 deer. During 3B, you can take 1 deer of either-sex and an additional anterless deer with a bonus permit so the bag limit is 2 deer.

Good luck!
