Bear hunting question

Recommended Posts

What do us bear hunters tell people about the sport of bear hunting ? Some people at work, and others, are questioning me about baiting. They say things like -- So you invite a bear for breakfast or dinner for three to four weeks in a row then shoot it ?They don't understand the amount of work that goes into a bear hunt.
Just wondering what kind of response I should give them people.
Thanks in advance !And good luck to all Minnesota bear hunters.Have a safe and successfull season.

I tell and told them that I am trying to out smart the largest predator in the state and they like to be out when I cannot shoot them. I am training them to come out for the special food that is only available from me.

I ask them, if they are 300# and jet black don't you think you would see more of them? They are obviously very cunning and aware of a lot more things to be that big and never be seen.

I use all of the following. Just b/c I have bait out, you still have to outsmart the animal, sitting perfectly still for hours on end, usually in the heat and bugs; playing the wind so your scent isn't drifting into the bedding area; playing against the natural food sources - just b/c you have bait out doesn't guarantee the bears will come to you; using a bow and arrow w/o a gun for backup; the lack of spot and stalk terrain in MN, etc. etc. etc. Just listing every possible scenario is usually enough to tell the people that you've done your homework and that more than just sitting over a food source is involved. Works for me!

Explain to them that if you did not use bait to attract them (like fish) it would be almost impossible the hunt them or stalk them like deer. And if you wait until all the leaves are down, the weather may be to cold and the bears may be hibernating already. Then we would have an over population of bears that would be shot before the season as nuisance bears and the meat would be waisted. Therefor, in oder to keep the population in check the only way to ensure bear hunting success is t bait. The alternative is to hunt with dogs and the animal activists do not like that approach!
Try that explination!

Ask them how many bears they have seen in person while in the woods. Make sure you tell them taking little jonny to the zoo dosen't count. Most people who ask those questions don't really want a answer anyways and if they are that ignorant they are not worth the time to respond to.
or you could ask them if they want to come over for dinner!!!hahahaha
