Hunting from canoe

Recommended Posts

From the 2003 MN waterfowl regulations. . ."Migratory waterfowl may be taken from a floating watercraft if
the craft is drifting, beached, moored, resting at anchor, or is
being propelled by paddle, oars, or pole."

I am pretty sure this also applies to deer and moose--not sure about turkeys.

I emailed the DNR and I got a same day response:

Hello Brian,
It is legal to discharge a firearm from a canoe at the game animals
you have listed. The canoe can not be motorized. You would need
permission to hunt on the land at which the animal is standing or the
land would need to be public.
hope that helps good luck

Hello DNR,
Is it legal to shoot a deer, bear moose or turkey with a rifle from a
canoe on the water?
I can't seem to find any applicable regulations in the hunting booklet,
but perhaps it is a boating law?

Thanks,

Brian Nelson
