Target dot or finehair

Recommended Posts

I plan on buying a nikon 6.5x20x44 scope but am unsure which type of crosshairs to go with. It will be mounted on a Rem.788 in 22-250 cal. Most of my shots will be under 400 yds. If anyone has any suggestions on which one I should go with it would be helpful Thanks

I have a friend that just purchased that scope in the iluminated mil-dot; he put it on his 220 Swift and he really likes it. Whatever you decide you won't be dissapointed in the Nikon optics.

Thanks for the info Flashman,I guess my real ? is if the dot covers too much out at 300-400 yds,I've never used this type of scope before, so I figured I better find out if I'm better off with the plain finehair or the dot. Thanks again.

Are you shooting yotes, fox or dogs..if you get a 1/4 dot at 100 yards you wont have a problem shooting fox/yotes..no need to have such a powerful scope..i made those mistakes a long time ago..3x9x50 or 3x12x50 is plenty unless your going to shoot dogs..the 50's are great for moon lite hunting..you'll need different mounts but well worth it..6 power is way to much for anything close or running shots..i have several varmit guns and all mine have 3x9x50 and 1 with the 12x i shoot fox and yotes at 400 yards with no problem..well let me clear that up..i should say you wont have a problem seeing the animals even curled up sleeping fox..dont even know if they make a 3x12x50 any more..but thats the scope i would get..i have that on my 22-250 with a red dot 1/4 at 100 yards..if you dont like the dot or it's to big just send it back and put a smaller 1 in..dont get the fine cross hairs unless you have a 4plex..low lite conditions realy makes it hard to see unless your getting the red or orange cross hairs..

at 16 power you will get heat waves and you'll see how much 1 realy shakes..keep that in mind

I've shot my friends Swift with the 6.5x20 illuminated Mil-dot and the dots are not to big, even out to 500+ yards on prairie dogs. The Cross hair is still there but you have elevation and windage markers. I myself think the 6.5x20 is too much scope but to each their own. I have a burris 4.5x14 ballistic plex on my swift and I like it, Nikon offers the same sort of thing in there buckmasters series...very nice scope too. All I can tell you is go look threw them and make your own choice.
