bait placement

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of you had any ideas on this? I am going to be hunting bear this year on the same land that I will be rifle hunting for deer. Do deer seem to shy away from a stand that was near a bait station for bear??

While Bear hunting I had a big doe walk within 20 yards of my bait site. I was even doing a honey burn, so I think no they do avoid the areas where there are bait sites.

I used the same deer hunting stand for bear the first year I bear hunted. The very first evening I had a doe and two yearlings walk right underneath me while I was doing a honey burn. I got to see all kinds of deer that I normally don't have an opportunity to see. In fact, the next weekend I tried a predator call along with a honey/bacon burn and 5 wolves came cruising through. I did get a bear, but not at that location. Later in November I got a nice 8-pointer off the same stand. I don't think the deer care that much.
