Dock Boy
Hello men and women, I have a few questions for ya! I'm headed to a Canadian shield lake next week to fish for Crappies. I have always been a minnow guy during these escapades. Water is typical stain Canadian shield water fishing in 20-35 ft of water maybe even down to 40. I bought some Tungsten jigs and Northland blood worm plastics and decided it's time to try PLASTICS!! Never fished with plastics before it's a confidence thing I guess. Any tips for a nonplastic user? What are the best Colors to use in these conditions? Also should a guy bring some waxies along with? Any help is greatly appreciated!! theiceman
I love using plastics! But you need a good variety of different colors and styles. My favorite plastics are puddle jumpers of different colors and a 1/16oz jig head great combination for big crappies. I'm guessing you're taking a locator of some sort because it will be needed for fishing plastics. A little hint is to make sure you don't fish too close to the fish keep it up above them I had Crappie's chase it up to 10 feet above them and smoke it. Good luck and let us know how you do! th64
I would still bring minnows for a set line-either for a tip up(yes a tip up for crappies) or a tip down-I will take any advantage as long as its legal, unless of course you are sure the bite will be solid-When are you sure? Never. Fish don't care how far you drive. Plastics are great for hole hopping though(I like Nuggies)
Borch
Don't be afraid to bring some upsize plastics along. I've had excellent action on 2" power or gulp minnows on a 1/16 oz jighead. I won't leave home without some #4 Rastso when targeting crappies. Glow has always worked well for me in stained water.
monstermoose78
I agree with Borch stained water means glow to me or white.
