It has been a long winter and sometimes the perch have been reluctant to hit, so I decided to try for suspended bluegills. Usually we fish in the weeds around here, in less than ten feet but there are places where the panfish are roaming halfway down, full-42005-43051-2014_03_0209.51.33.jpg

in deeper water. An occasional nice perch or crappie helps keep things interesting when tying to get a meal. These gills aren't big, the nice ones are eight inches, but nobody seems to complain when they are filleted and fried! Definitely a Vexilar bite.

I love running into the suspended bluegills, those that are riding up high in the water column are hard to keep up with on most days, but when you can stay on top of them it's a tremendous bite!

Nice job!

This is my goal today. Got a great tip on some suspended pannies in 20'. With the cloud cover I bet the crappies will be eager to bite. I hope I get some gills to boot.
