Hate to say it amateur, but what would it hurt to have one of them give it a shot?

If someone knows what they are doing, might be able to get it apart yet, unless you have done irreparable damage to the drill yourself.

Just saying, if they are willing to look at it for free, why not try?

Pulling the screw holding a chuck on a Makita or DeWalt can be a little tricky but isn't all that hard once you have done a couple.

Did you say you damage two different drills trying to get the chuck off?

What models were each of them?

Sorry, I think you mis understood me, I am definitely going to take them up on the offer. when I wrote irreversible damage I was referring to the screw that holds the chuck only, NOT the 2 drills, they are both still in fine working order.

At this point I would consider taking it over to Acme Electric Motor Company in Plymouth MN. They are a service center for both DeWalt and Makita.

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for any damage you may do to your tools or injury.

Otherwise the only other option I can see would be to drill a bit deeper until you are able to actually break the head of the screw.

Because the screw is tapered head there is still some of it left in there. The part you need to be careful is to not drill too deep as you need some of it exposed to get rid of it.

Acme Electric should have replacement retaining screws. I would recommend taking it to them for the chuck removal.

having just a bit of trouble, is that "power stick" supposed to rest on the plate and constantly grind on it or is the bold supposed to be higher in that hole so the other bold does not constantly grind against the plate. I tried placing it a little higher so the lower bold would not grind against the plate and would need less effort to hit the power button but cannot get the lock nut tight enough to keep it higher off the handle plate

yep place the trigger bolt up just a little so you have a smooth pull on the trigger and it pushes the trigger in all the way. You should have the shoulder bolt go through the linkage then a washer. Put that through the black plate then a washer and lock nut. Did you use the new bolt that was in the little bag separate from the other hardware bag.

yes I did but bolt a is grinding against the handle plate and bolt "B" I cannot get tight enough to stay in place anywhere in that slot, it always falls to the bottom, don't know if there is a problem with the lock nut or what.....hopefully can get it squared away at clam HQ nearby

I do love the idea of this setup along with instant power on demand and not having to pull strings to get a motor started....on a side note though, I think they could have used a 2nd key hole screw right at the bend of that trigger for a little additional support of that trigger rod

When you say two washers on the trigger bolt, are you saying one on each side of the plate. I put mine together yesterday, and I'm not quite sure if I have it correct. Clams instruction page that came with it was less than informative. The pictures look like they've been photo-copied so many time that they are almost solid black.

I had to watched the Clam youtube video several times to figure out how to assemble it.

If anyone has close up photo's of both side of the plate, please post them.

I had to watched the Clam youtube video several times to figure out how to assemble it. that video is kinda dump cause they show the handle components already installed which is NOT how it comes, anyone can just add the auger, its the handle components that needs the help

I could not agree with you more, my instructions could have been copied 10 x over, all I saw was black and gray spots, could not make anything out and when googled it, videos were all about connecting drill to handle so you had to have all components on handle already done. I had to pause several videos to try & make out the handle components and make self explanatory basically

I did find a color version of the instruction on the Clam HSOforum, however even the color pictures are so far away and small. According to the instructions, you only use 1 flat washer and the nylon locking nut. Not sure where or why I would use a second washer.

I could send a picture tomorrow. I put a washer on both sides of the plate. You also might have to do some final adjusting on the plastic linkage guide to eleminate some stickyness in the trigger. I also gave it a little shot of wd40.

Here are pictures of mine. Keep in mind that it is a prototype from last season, so it's different. I thought that it might at least give ideas about assembly. I'm hoping that it doesn't confuse anyone. If it doesn't look right, please ignore it because it is different.full-42005-39162-augerconvproto002.jpg

with all due respect to Clam I think this will be a great piece of equipment for the hard water arsenal but think they need to rethink the "directions" leaflet, add a 2nd key hole screw to where the trigger arm plastic bolt connection is for added support, otherwise I cant wait to test this out and if good enough dump the gas auger maybe.......

thx again for all the support & help

Thanks for the photo's guy. That's what mine does look like, so I must have gotten it figured out too. If I was closer to the cities, I'd run over to Clam and have them check mine also....

Although, If I would have had mine assembled right away I could have had Matt or one of the Clam pro's look at it last weekend they were here in Sioux Falls. Looking forward to trying this thing out on the ice.

amateurfishing, you're right. We discussed this morning. Matt's going to put together a short video with added details and instruction and post on our youtube page. We're going to get a supplement to our directions up on the CLAM site as well. Thanks for your feedback!
