chat room

maybe something for this HSOforum for next ice season. I think a chat room would be a great way for all of us ice team members to chat. and maybe once a week the ice team pro staff could make an appearance in the chat room and offer up some expert advice. who all would be interested in something like that.

Its a decent idea, but chat rooms tend to get jammed packed with stupid comments.

Its tough enough to read through the occasional thread that has turned into a [PoorWordUsage] match.

Chat rooms would be much worse.

What I appreciate about the forums is that you can read everything, and yet, only comment when necessary.

I would never sit in on a chat room and do the same.

Exactly right Chris. I was in 2 other outdoor forums before I came to HSO. Both were great forums with good info but neither wanted to implement moderators to calm the troubled waters among users. Ultimately both forums were shut down.

Having an actual live chat room would only increase the boldness of users and be impossible to moderate. Sillytown is civil compared to live chat mainly because it's more real time and feigned comments would be posted before an agitated user had time to settle down.

I visit a couple of sites that have fishing chat rooms, and 90% of the time users are grateful and very civil in chat. If not, a mod. can be notified and they will boot the unruly users... Great idea for next season! Could even host QA sessions on certain dates at certain times...
