Jeff Andersen
How is everyone's walleye fishing going? I been fishing mostly Mille Lacs and Leech with pretty good success! Leech it seems like we are catching numbers of decent keeper sized fish with lots of smaller fish. Great for the future! Mostly fishing in the Walker Bay Area. Mille Lacs has been pretty fun for the big fish bite. I know anglers are catching them in the shallow weeds but we have been focused on fishing the mud. One thing we found is if you feel you are on a good area don't be afraid to drill out off the edge a ways. Several of our largest fish have been off the structure. Just wanted to see how everyone else is doing?
GSP4ME
Jeff. how are you fishing these eyes. I am picking up a new electronic this weekend and cant wait to get out with it.I know to study my lake map and then apply the map to my flasher. For an example when you mention the mud on Mille Lacs what would I be looking for, inside turns , transition areas, etc and then get busy from there? battleriver1
Still finding isolated pockets of aggressive eyes up here on uper red. I've been focusing on the mud flats, difference between biters and lookers may only be a few yards.
Jeff Andersen
Awesome "GSP4ME"! Too me the most important factor in success is location. Without a gps with mapping system there is no way I can be as successful. "You can't catch em' if they are not below you!" You are right on with Mille Lacs. Most of the mud flats there top out at around 22 to 24 feet and at the basin is 31 to 33 feet. Some of the flats are miles long and of coarse the main points are good but only for a few weeks as they are the first spots to fished so finding those small little "holding points" is key. As I also mentioned we have found several fish out from those key spots. For example: We were on a spot that has always been good for us early season and we just weren't seeing the fish. We started to drill holes out into the basin and started to contact fish. Remember when you are on a spot that you feel should be holding fish...Small moves are BIG Moves. The fish are usually close by so make sure to fish every aspect of each spot! Good luck and make sure to post some big fish photos on Ice Team's Facebook Page!!! Jarrid Houston
Good stuff Jeff! I am looking forward to a 4 day Mille Lacs Trip coming up feb 9-12... Walleye fishing has been good for us for both size and numbers. Early ice was great for big fish (as it usually is) and now that the ice is growing we are seeing a lot of eater size fish coming in.
