mrpike1973
hi my wife and i have 2 1 man flip overs. 1 is a frabill the other my new clam tc love it. we had a pop up for just a couple of weeks and had a accident with it so its junk our fault. any way for mobility of use i think the one mans are better. however on our own we can move around better and not camp in one spot would you stay with the 2 one mans or get a pop up thanks for your advice. MNCPRGUY
Sounds to me like you have already answered your question. It's hard to beat the flip style houses for mobility, but there is something to be said (for and against) about sharing a house with your spouse. I own a Bigfoot 4000t and it is actually lighter weight in the sled with all my gear than my modded 2-man Jason Mitchell Thermal X flipover. If pulling isn't a concern, my first choice is the flip. However, my wife and kids really like the ability to walk around in the bigfoot and it's hardly any work at all to setup especially if you're not doing it alone and/or in the wind. It's a tough call and I can only hope that my wife doesn't one day insist that I have to choose between the two!
Pete Maina
Good stuff here. Of course the correct answer is both, ideally ... and well-explained. I think for individual hard-core searching and jigging a machine and flip-over certainly way to go. I mainly use the hub tent with a group - as a home base. Yesterday, there were 10 of us out, with a combination of tip-up sets and jigging. Set up the Bigfoot right in the middle with the Mr Heater and was a warm-up/jigging shack with folks going in and out (doggies too) to get out of wind and warm up. The "room" is really nice and folks get in and out pretty well quickly while losing little heat. And then there's that spouse-time.
Valleye
Hey from down in Illinois. I had the same dilemma and got both. Originally I bought the Scout and then the Pro and then the scout again!!!! Thinking the Pro would be bigger, I didn't like the layout as compared to the scout. So sold the Pro and bought a Scout again. Now with young kids I decided to have the Hub tent from Clam, set up a base of operations a HQ so to speak. The kids can sit in there jig, eat, and if they want to go outside we can jump on the ATV and go say Hi to all the Ice Anglers. Get a Hub and Scout you can't go wrong. mrpike1973
hi guys well i decided to get a hub. i figure that even when the wife and i go single one mans together if we want to take someones kid out or maybe someone who has never fished before it would be a much better out of a hub we got a insulated one. thanks for your advice i like petes idea of a base camp people who dont want to move as much can stay at base while others go scope out new water thanks guys
Jarrid Houston
There are most defintly advantages and disadvantages to both. I do love the fact that a hub provides more room and does serve as a great "base camp" when with multiple people. With this, they are also less expensive, and pretty easy to set up (unless it is windy; but can still be done with ease, especially with help). One thing that can kind of be a pain with a hub is all the accessories one would need to drag with. Talking chairs, tables, etc etc. This is where I love flips, because you can just throw in the essentials (rods, bait, auger, etc) into the flip sled. Plus the flip is very very easy to set up and take down in fast timely manner. Both serve great purposes, and to each there own. I like Pete's comment "of course the correct answer is both"". Anyways, sounds like you made your decision. Now get out and do some fish'N! Gd luck!!!
kerryd15
I have a voyager, which serves me as a base camp. I bought an ice suit and rarely need the house except to worm up once in a while.
Jason Hamilton
I'll but another vote in for the BOTH camp. Each day fishing is different for me, depending on who I'm with and how we are fishing. Being able to have 3 or 4 anglers in a hub shelter is great for instructing new or younger folks. Also is a necessity for the dog in cold temps. However, the flip over offers more mobility when actively seeking fish. Plan for your average outing type and "make it work" when things are different. No 1 shack (or any fishing gear for that matter) will work in all situations luckily with Clam's lineup there will be a combination of Ice Armor and a shack that will cover just about any situation you are faced with. JohnMickish
Like everyone else says, both if you are into moving around. If you plan to stay put for awhile, the XL4000T is a great house. I own one and for the wife and I it has a ton of room. Kind of like fishing in your living room! The portables are going to be faster, but if you want to fish together it may be worth it to spend the extra minute to set up the hub house. For anchoring, I use lag bolts and a cordless impact to run them into the ice. Very fast.
