Do you guys prefer minnows or waxies and spikes for live bait?

Here in Colorado west of the continental divide, minnows are illegal. Therefor I do prefer waxies. Minnows would be cool up here though.

I haven't used a minnow for panfish in 15 years now. Mainly, I'm a 80 plastics and 20 waxy guy myself.

I think you'll find that, like Lawrence, a fair number of us are plastics guys now. I know I run plastics 95% of the time and eurolarvae the remaining 5%.

I have yet to catch a fish on plastics. Have tried many times, but must be doing something really wrong. Can't figure it out.

Try using plastics on a hot bite and not as a last resort and you'll gain confidence with them. When I first started with them I only used em when my regular go to lures failed, and had little success but looking back I think it was more just negative fish that probably wouldn't bite no matter what was in front of em

Only time I'll use plastics is when the bite is hot and heavy, or on other situational outings... trout lakes with no live bait regs, tullie fishing, run out of bait, when using Darters, etc... I am using euro's 90% of the time for crappies and 'gills, and minnows 90% of the time for walleyes and perch...
