lakevet
Got my dad's xl 3000. Blades need sharpening and looking at options/strategies to avoid down time at least cost route. The kids will be using it a lot more this year. Buy replacement blades and get the originals sharpened for spares? What are options for sharpening. Looked at Strikemasters site but links to their sharpening service are dead ends. Read about chinese blades a while back, are they all swedish now? Can they be replaced with straight chipper blades that are easier to sharpen? Thanks! lakevet
Fredd
Most people don't have good luck sharpening lazer blades. Your best option is to buy new ones. They will last a long time if you keep them out of the dirt. My first set lasted me eight years and I punch a lot of holes each year. Jim Uran
You will have a hard time sharpening those, it's not impossible though if they are too bad. I recently did it to my Lazer Mag, I used one of those tools you can buy to sharpen auger blades. After I sharpened them I was actually able to cut some holes with it lol. I'm going to keep my auger in service until I can afford to buy a new one after Christmas. As far as switching over to chipper blades, you would have to change the whole drill assembly. The end of it isn't configured to screw on those chipper blades.
lakevet
Thanks for the info guys. With 3 sons and their friends who are good for their age about using but not abusing my stuff, I know the blades will need maintenance. I don't want to be buying blades. I read that Strikemaster used to have a sharpening service so they can be resharpened instead of tossed. Any sharpening services out there that can sharpen lazer blades? Find it hard to believe blades just get tossed when dull.
Gus
red rock store (google it) does sharpening for $15 (laser) or $10 (chipper) blades. I'm sure there are others, but that's the only one I know of.
