TRegnier
I see everyone using Vexilars but i like the vertical orientation of the marcums. Is there a reason that no ones uses them?
alumabass
I don't think that "no one uses them" is a very accurate statement........We have 3 of them and we are very happy with the performance. My Father In Law still uses his VX1 too.
Brad B
I see everyone using Vexilars but i like the vertical orientation of the marcums. Is there a reason that no ones uses them? Are you refering to the Ice Team pros? if so I think it is a sponsorship deal since vexilar is a Ice Team sponsor. personal preference may play into it also. Jim Hudson
Lots of personal preference in the sonar game. All companies are making a good sonar, and finding one that works best for you is key. If that is a Marcum, use it, cause if your comfortable with it, you will probably catch more fish. Reason I, and a lot of others, use Vexilar. They are simple, dependable and just flat out help us catch fish each and everytime we are on the ice.
aanderud
I see everyone using Vexilars but i like the vertical orientation of the marcums. Is there a reason that no ones uses them? Is a ford better than a chevy? Do some searches and you can find all the info you ever wanted on the topic. Same question has been asked 200 times before. Two very dependable sonar companies, each known for reliability and putting fish on the ICE. I have owned both and like Jim said, it's all about personal preference. I have become a big fan of MarCum Technologies. Their new LX-9 is unreal and the Showdown Series makes ice fishing easy for any beginner (digital depth, Zoom , ect). With that being said, new technology ALWAYS has a hiccup or two. Software and battery life problems are just a few problems that come to mind. One word of advice- if your looking into a new sonar, Think about the style of fishing that you do most of the time. Are you a run and gun type of fisherman? or do you sit stationary for a majority of time? Do you have to hike in to some of your spots or is most of your fishing vehicle accessible? These are just a few questions that might help you make your decision when buying a sonar unit.
TyGuy02
I use my "ancient" VX-1 for both open water and hard water. It was the first flasher that I owned and haven't needed an upgrade. I like the color transitions of the marcum flashers over the vexilars. It is 100% personal preference, and I'm comfortable with what I've spent too many hours staring at.
