Yamaha 75 hp four stroke top speed

I have a 2003 Yamaha 75 four stroke tiller on a 17 foot starcraft stare fire. I have tried a few props and  about the best I see for top speed is 30 to 31 on gps. Just seems slow to me or am I expecting too much from a 75?

That is about it.  You can look at the various tests of similar rigs on places like boattest.com, as well as the manufacturers sites.  Remember a 75 hp motor is pretty much the same top speed wise no matterwhat brand.

Thanks , that's  what I  thought.    I should  just up grade to a 90 I see there the same weight.

The 90 should get you maybe another 3mph

That's about what I got going from 115 Merc to a 140 Suzuki

Yep that's about what I see with my 17' alumacraft and a 75hp merc 2 smoker

One other thing that is in favor of the 90 is that it will be better with a heavy load.   With my boat and the 115 (it was rated for 150) if I had a bunch of people in it, like 4 or 5 adults, it struggled some.   Now that is much better.
