Directv Local Channels

I have directv setup in my ice castle. I have an 18" round dish installed that came with the house when I bought it. I am not getting local channels. I also have an antenna but am only getting fox and would like abc and nbc for some football games. Does anyone know if the locals are on satellite 119 around mn? If I were to upgrade my dish to the 18x20 dish would I get local channels?

Could be 2 things. Minor market  locals are on a different satellite  and the basic dish only picks up the one. Need a King Dome or similar setup.  Local stations are also sent out only to a limited geographical area. Did you test it out in your driveway?

I tried getting it setup in my driveway but there is a big tree that is in the way so couldn't test before I got it out. I know locals are a limited geographical area but I thought I'd be good at 45 miles from home. I know locals can be on sat 119 instead of 101 just didn't know if that is the case around here. Can't really find any good info on it.

Maybe you are at the edge of range at home. Hard to say. You could call Directv but don't expect much. At best, they can give you the bad news that your locals are on a separate satellite. They won't be able to give you anything on range.

Had friends with this issue. The dish they were told they needed was by no means cheap. Hopefully technology has caught up.

Back in the early days, we had extra dishes mounted to concrete blocks and pointed it by hand and guesstimation. Was confident in my world record for chucking mine in frustration until I saw one go sailing over the top of a nearby shack.

I actually just found an 18x20 dish in the dumpster at work that should work. I would eventually like an automatic dish finder but I don't think directv will pick up the locals once again. Dish seems like they have more options for portable dishes for a more reasonable price than directv. Also the portable ones for directv won't pickup HD.

do you have a paid subscription to direct tv? u have to have a receiver box hooked to your dish and then to the tv. I live in the twin cities and have a trailer in the International falls area which is 300 miles away. I have dish tv at home I bought a second dish for the trailer. I bring a box from one of my TV's at home to my trailer and get all the stations I get at home including the local ones.

Yes I have a paid subscription for directv. I took a box and tv out of one of our spare bedrooms. Sometimes local channels are on the 101 transponder depending on where you live. In my area the sd locals are on 119 transponder. I only was using the 18" dish which picks up only one transponder which i had set to 101. The dish i will put up will be able to connect to 101, 110 and 119 transponders. My locals are on 119.

My current 18" round dish picks up one satellite on the 101. This dish only has an elevation and azimuth setting. The 18x20 dish has elevation azimuth and skew settings and will pick up 3 satellites at the same time. 101, 110, 119. My regular channels are on 101 and my locals are on 119

Thanks for the link. I wonder if I can only get uhf with my antenna. I have a winegard pop out antenna like most come with. One of the ears was kinda broke when I bought it so it could have something to do with that too, but I only pick up channel 15-1

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
