BDR
Just curiuos what others are seeing for hunters in different areas,Marshall,Slayton,Big Stone,Canby,or how about S. central, of Pheasant areas? I have not had any trouble finding areas.I get to a spot at least 1 hour before shooting times, I have seen a few searching for spots at 8:55, they are always the guy that come over the hill and when they see a truck at thier spot it's 60 mph to the next down the gravel. Also to all hunters I have come across, Thanks for not pushing in on me. I have had no disrespectful experiences this year to date. It's nice to be able to say that as we so often read about the bad apples(slobs).[This message has been edited by BDR (edited 10-19-2003).]
bmc
I'm also wondering about this. I live in Itasca County, so it looks like I'd have a 2 to 3 hour drive to hunt pheasants. By the sounds of things, there's lots of birds. I too am wondering about WMA's and WPA's for pheasant hunting. I'm off every other Tues-Thurs. so hopefully I wouldn't have to put up with too much competition. Any one have any counties that are within a couple hours drive for me to start searching in? No honey holes, just counties that have alot of public areas.bmc
Guest
I have been hunting in the Marshall area the last two weekends now. Opening weekend there were quite a few birds and 2 of us had our limit by 11 both days. This last weekend was quite a bit slower and only hunted on Friday and Saturday. A little too hot to hunt both for me and the dog. Not as easy to get birds this weekend too. I also would like to thank a few hunters for not being disrespectful. I have had no bad experiences thus far with anybody. Any other reports from the Marshall area or further south?
Shorthair Guy
I hunt I Canby a couple times each year, I have it a bit easier than most I get to hunt a bunch of private land. The nice thing about that area is that there is also many WMA's and WPA's in that area. I have found that the later in the season you hunt out there is better. First of all the corn is out, secondly you get the hunters that only hunt a few times a year out of the way, this opens up the land a bunch. Was out there for opener and plan a trip out there in a few weeks, and plan to try a few of the WMA's while there. Many of the WMA's have water holes there so about all you will have to compete with are some duck hunters before the ponds freeze up.Hunt em up!Shorthair Guy
bmc
I've been doing some research and am tempted to take a week day and head down to the Mora/Millaca area and hunt some of the WMA's for pheasants. From the DNR population map I got, it looks like there should be some birds in that area. Anyone have any ideas?bmc
