sonar performance ?

Cheers

Question

My question is regarding depth finders and quality . I have an elite 7 chirp and the problem with the unit is that it cant read the bottom in deep water (45 feet plus ) at speeds over 25 mph . I have tried every possible variation of angle and location for my transducer  and made some improvements but still am not getting the performance I want . My question is if I upgrade to a better unit will I be able to improve my performance ?

Thanks

I have an elite 7 hdi abd I have decided that the losing bottom at high speed in deep water is at least partially due to that water having a soft bottom, because if I run over even a little bit of rock sticking up a couple feet, it is detected.

I cant tell you whether some other more expensive or different brand unit will work better, since I have never tried them.  You might compare the power output of different units to see how much difference there is in the specifications.

For example your chirp 7 is rated at 500w RMS.  This is the same as the HDS7 gen3 is rated.  It seems as if all of the Lowrance units have the same rated power, based on checking several on their web page.

The garmin 7610 is rated at 1000 watts, perhaps RMS.  No details.
