North Shore resort

I am looking for a resort, or a motel on Lake Superior, anywhere from Duluth north for this weekend. It needs to be a nice place, with a good view, since it will be just myself, and my wife. Every nice place I could think of, or find online, is booked full, so I figured I would check here to see if anyone has recommendation on a place, that may not advertise heavily online, or one that may possibly have an open room for this weekend.

 

Anyone have any recommendations?

I was planning a hike this weekend up that way, but I forgot that it's "color season" (read: crazy busy), so I'll wait until it's colder and more miserable and lonelier.  I don't get motel rooms (need a real job first), but I'm not surprised that the nice places on the lake are booked up.  

How far north are you willing to drive?   Are you set on the lake views?  The lake always looks the same....the best views this time of year are up the hill and in the woods.  Maybe an off-lake motel with some hikes to overlooks?  There are lots of overlooks, and many can be accessed very easily with a short walk (usually uphill, alas).

Have you checked some of the motels in Bayfield Wis? Nice lake-harbor views there.

I haven't. I gave up last night looking for a place along the North Shore, and went with Breezy Point. Although I will keep that in mind for next time!
