No Birdies For Me!

Thanks to all of you for the great pictures this summer,  my yard in Brainerd has been dismal this year for birds! I have a ton of different seeds, feeders are clean, no predators that I can tell, and hardly any birds. I sure don't see any elaborate feeders in neighbors yards so I have to believe it's just been a good year for natural seed production in my area. Oh well, my pet chipmunk is fat.

Well if it makes you feel any better, the bird feeding here most of the summer aside from the orioles and hummingbirds sure didn't live up to past expectations. Went in streaks and up until a few weeks ago was encouraged by the number of goldfinches. Now it appears they're gobbling down some of the native wildflower seeds and not showing much interest in our offerings. Things are looking up though. The red-bellied woodpecker has spied the ear corn and is enjoying that. The roller feeder has cut down on waste as the house sparrows really don't like using it that well. As you pointed out, at least the chipmunks like it.:)

Geez, I'm sorry to hear that, and a bit surprised.  I live right in town and have more birds in my feeder than I ever remember. Just this morning there were probably a dozen goldfinches, a handfull of house finches, chickadees, nuthatches, hairy and downy woodpeckers, 4 or 5 different cardinals, a pair of mourning doves and the occasional bluejay.

Sure made it hard to put down the coffee cup and come into work.
