New Pup - Food question

We are getting a new Black Lab puppy next weekend and I was trying to figure out what I am going to feed him. I feed my 9 year old Springer Purina One Lamb and Rice food but was thinking of feeding the new dog Taste of the Wild High Prairie Puppy Formula. I have a coworker that feeds his dog the adult version and is happy with it. I had gotten some free samples a couple years ago and my Springer wouldn't even try it. I like the ingredients listed on the bags and I have a store not far away to get it at. Does anyone have any experience with this food? I know it is pretty expensive but am willing to try it on the new pup. Thanks in advance for the replies.

I also need to pick up some treats for training purposes this weekend. I would appreciate some advice for that too. I have a training kit with book and accessories coming in mail from gundog supply on Tues. It comes with Tom Dokken's Retreiver Training book. Getting excited already but I hope my Springer accepts the pup, she is a very jealous dog when it comes too me. The puppy is for my son so I hope that he can handle spending a lot of time with the pup and training it with me.

Wow I did some research looking at reviews for this food and I am going to look for a different alternative. I did not realize that Diamond made this food either. I remember hearing about a non-grain food made in MN that was supposed to be good but cant remember the name. I would like to hear any other good alternatives you might have. Thanks.

If the Purina is working for your springer why do you want to change? Everyone has different ideas of what will work for you, I am sure you will get some replies on what they feed their dogs. For more then forty years I have always fed my pups  the Purina puppy chow and as they got up around a year old I would then change them over to Alpo which is also made by Purina. When I had three dogs they all ate from a community bowl which is something you can't do when feeding two dogs two different kinds of food. As for treats when training I went cheap, I just used dog food. A few bits of dry dog food and a lot of praise is all I ever use. I never saw a reason to change from the Alpo, good coats, well formed stools and not a lot of waste and the price was good when I went through a 47 pound bag about every 5 weeks, good luck with the new pup!

I ended up going with Nutri Scource Large Breed Puppy Food. I had a long conversation with a nice lady that knew her food at Pet Expo. It sounds like a good food and is made here in Mn. I am going to get my older dog to switch over at some point when I go to the adult food.

thats a good dog food.  Bobby's on the right track with the treats.  With our puppies they always loved their dog food so I just grab some out of the bin and usually have some in my pocket.  I whistle train them to come as early as possible so they go out to potty I blow the whistle and they come running for a few kibbles.  Eventually as they get bigger you can't keep them in your pocket because they figure it out and are constantly sniffing your pocket!

I used to feed Purina but switched to Nutri Source because my one dog was allergic. Both dogs are now on Nutri Source and they've had zero issue. Great food.
