Has anyone used those bells on their dogs collar?

I bought a couple of those collar bells for the dogs to make it easier to track them in the cattails and the birds where flushing about 80 yards in front of us. We then took of the bells and the birds started flushing right in front of the dogs. The rotten part is that with the bells on we saw about a dozen roosters and the last part of the day all we kicked up were HUGE hens.

Has anyone else had this type of experience with these? Also do any of you use those beeper collars, and do they spook the birds too?
If your looking for these bells I will send you mine, they will never be used again.

The key to late season pheasants is be quiet, put out posters if possible, hit the toughest cover possible, and hope for tough weather to drive them into cover. I've used those bells in the past but not anymore, nowadays I try to run silent, no yelling, no whistles, etc.

I use a beeper collar with my shorthair all the time. I have not really noticed it to kick the birds early, it doesnt go off unless the dog is on point.
And we have had times were he was on point for a number of minutes and the birds always have held tight.

I use an upland special with just a regular loud beep about every 3 seconds only when he is on point. But my buddies collar make a number of differnt noises like a hawk a beep and I think a few more..

I have read about the hawk noise for the collar and they say that when pheasants hear that they hunch up and hold tight so the hawk doesnt see them.
And my buddy says he really likes his collar!
