Elm Creek Local
I recently purchased a 16' Big Bite and have 2 topics that I am curious about. Tips and tricks related to the propane system on your wheel house?(hoses, regulators, tank size, tank protection, etc.) I know there are a lot of variables associated to this, but ballpark your propane usage over the course of a 24 hour stay at ~0F.(maybe provide a description of your house)
Boar
ive a 20 ft V, with 30.000 btu furnace. Ive two 30 lb tanks on it and that in -20 will last 3 solid days with maybe half tank left over. but heat also depends on how well you bank ur house, or if the floor is insulated too. you definatley want the proper size tank for the size of the furnace, even it if you have a 20,000 btu id still go with 30 lbers. Ive ran a 30,000 btu furnace on 20 lbers for a lon time and wen it got really cold it would build up enough pressure in the smaller tank to burn, I get just under a half tank and have to switch tanks to a full one, lesson learned. Ive a 100 lber and thought id fill that for eel pout fest and stuff but thats a beast to lugg around, it dont take long to get to know your usage, I always carry spare tanks also. Elm Creek Local
Good comment on the banking. Have you guys ever had your regulators freeze up?
Boar
nope, but i always cary a spare., and I alway cary a big buddy and a sunflower head and exrtra tanks incase of any regulator problems, being able to keep the place warm while thawing one out or replacing is always good for the wife. I have a emergency kit to handle most situations, if I cant take care of a situation in a short period of time then i need to go home and fix it there. I also have a road kit. spare tire cable, clamps, jack stands, floor jack breaker bar, speed wrench, leaf spring pins, most everything for road side repair, and if I cant handle it there then I need a wreker. Hawg
Always have a spare regulator, a cheapie is fine. I would recommend 2-30# tanks to you and an auto changeover regulator. The reason is that I went twin 40's and no one makes a hard cover for 40#ers, 30's are everywhere and cheap. If you don't protect your regulator you will have freeze problems.
