Matt Johnson
Always fun discussing Sunfish, especially how these fish differ depending on what part of the state (or country) you are in. With it being June now, I definitely have sunfish on the brain as they stage for the spawn and begin bedding. Some of my largest fish of the season are caught once the fish stage just outside of spawning areas. I try to leave the fish alone when they are all-over the beds, but right before they move in you have a shot at some of the biggest fish the lake will produce. Excitement aside, here is a piece I resurrected on the topic of Northern versus Southern sunfish...In Search of Sunfish... monstermoose78
I enjoy fishing for Trophy Bluegill and have found lakes in the northern Minnesota people tend to forget about Bluegills. That is the reason I like fishing Northern Minnesota, because they are not as pressured compared to the lakes around where I live.
