I've been an avid fisherman/hunter since I was a little kid. Low and behold 16 years ago our first kid is born and he's a boy. He fished and hunted with me a lot and when he got to about 12 lost interest in hunting for sure and fished only sporadically. It took me a few years to completely figure it out and although it was kind of sad I decided to not push him. I'd invite him on trips and sometimes he'd say yes but mostly he had other things he'd rather do. My main thought was all of the fun I've had over the years hanging out with buddies making lifelong friends etc.

It's a miracle!!! He asked me today if he could go ice fishing...with a buddy of his. Maybe there's hope.

He just left the house and I asked him if he had a fishing license? Easiest money I've handed to him in years. He pays for most of his entertainment out of his own pocket but this one I had to pay for.

My son is the same way. I have let him try everything I do. All kinds of hunting, summer and winter fishing, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, Sports, etc, etc. I have always told him that we are two different people and throughout life will like to do different things. You never have to like the things that I do, but I want you to give them a good try to see if you like them.

Going to college took a lot of his time away to do much of these things. Now 24 and looking back I found out the things that he liked to do.

As a teen, it was soccer not Hockey or foot ball like Dad. Paintball was huge to him and he went on to play on a college team, spent $1,000 or two on the best guns and gear and made up his own web site! Still likes to Deer rifle hunt, but doesn't seem to want or have time now to fish or do other hunting. But, does a lot of shooting still.

So, you can present things to them, but let them be their own person! wink
