delmuts
With my wife retiring this winter, we will finally get to spend more time( hopefully ALOT more) at her place on the Miss. My little experience with walleye fishing has been vertical with a little trolling. I normally use jigs+ and started using jigging raps this fall. Opinions on when one is better than the other spring, summer, or fall .
Tom Sawyer
When fish are aggressively feeding and willing to chase down it's prey, and are scattered. I think of fishing Jigging Raps in open water, as more of a horizontal presentation. Fishing fast with them for searching out fish that are really on a chew. 2 foot rips, while at 1.8 - 2.3 mph..Jigs are for more of a neutral bite, fish in a general area,(vertical); or if ripping them (horizontal), when fish are triggered by a slower drop speed. Raps drop fast. Make sure your over not snaggy bottoms when you pull out the Raps.
tunrevir
I like to fish them during transiton times when fish move from shallower cover to deeper water. They are dynamite in the summer when fish are aggressive but also do well during transition periods. This last summer when the fished had moved off the shallower areas I like to fish I decided to work some early winter spots with the jigging raps and was rewarded with some fish after my primary pattern failed me. Definitely is helpful to have a flasher type finder while working the fish but it is not totally necessary as they would absolutely smack the JR.Tunrevir~
