Do you set the heater right on carpet?

A friend of my brother had his carpet start on fire, he did not have the fan running on it.

We always have with no issues. Not plush carpet tho

I have always set it on the carpet. That being said I would take care to be sure it isnt leaning forward.

I keep 2 milk crates in my flipover, 1 to prop the marcum camera on, the other to prop the buddy heater on, no worries...

I would find this very hard to believe. The fact that heat rises and the actual element is set back in the heater and up a good 3-4 inches off the floor. There has to be some other explanation for this to happen. Gas or propane fumes possibly??
