JayDeHay
One of my buddies fixed me up with a drill adapter for my 6" lazer hand auger, but my 12v Black & Decker drill doesn't have enough 'umph' to get the job done. I went fishing with a guy today that had a 20v Dewalt on a 5" auger that just ripped it up. So what size drill would you say is ideal for a 6" auger? aanderud
Most folks are recommending 20v drills, and if you can go brushless, it'll last longer.
Alagnak
Rigid is the only one that will warranty batteries that I know of so keep that in mind. A good quality 18 volt is plenty for 6" bit or less. For example, 30-35 holes in 8-9" only put my 18v batt to 3/4. 4 amp hr batt.
CJH
I would think any 18v hammer style drill would work. Obviously more voltage, more power, but for a 6in auger you get to a point where its overkill.
Badhorse
I have a 7 inch lazer and I use a 24volt greenworks drill for it. The drill needs a 1/2 chuck and 2 speeds on it to work as an auger. Run the drill on low speed for torque. I can drill around 30ft of ice on one lithium battery. The drill was $160 online and came w/ two batteries. Ohboytimmy
I have a newer lithium 18v Ryobi on a 6 inch lazer and it drills like a champ. I have drilled about 12 holes about ten inches thick of ice per battery. Ryobi or rigid are good if you want something affordable.
JayDeHay
Thanks for the input guys! I'm in the process of convincing my wife that a new power tool really is a necessity. Kinda hard after I just got a new impact driver for Christmas. lol
northlanderZ
I had the batteries, so I went with one of these and it works great. 4amp battery = 75+ holes with a 6" lazer auger. CPO Milwaukee
