Picked up a new reel

Was at Fleet Farm in St Cloud today to get a new Vexilar, turns out it was the day the staff went through all the fishing poles to discard the broken ones. They were going through the ice rod/reel combos when I got there, and were in the process of taking a 13 Fishing Black Betty reel off of a broken rod. As I looked closer, I noticed all the reels were getting price tags. I literally put my hand on the table as the guy was putting the Black Betty down, he grinned and set it in my hand. I looked at the tag, $5. No, seriously, $5! I couldn't get out of there fast enough in fear that they'd realize their mistake! haha

Awesome reels! I use the 6160 black Betty. It takes some getting used to but it's nice! Great score on price!

So, they are getting a refund from 13 fishing for their broken product, and selling the reels for extra income? Don't think they are supposed to do that.

My guess is the "broken" rods are from customers handling the floor display models at FF...not 13Fishings problem, just FF trying to get something out of a broken rod combo.

Exactly. Do you really think FF pays anything close to $60 for a 13 Black Betty combo? I'll bet it's less than half that, they can afford to soak up a few broken ones here or there.

This reel has thrown me into a new predicament: I don't have a rod nice enough for it

As of now I have a Med-Heavy 30", Medium 26", and a Light 24", and a random assortment of jiggle sticks. I'd like to use Betty on a UL or USL rod. Any suggestions in the sub $40 range?
