cell phone reception help

Cheers

Question

We live in a marginal cell phone reception area so until now I have resisted the urge to buy a phone. For us there is only one service provider so my only variability is the brand of phone to get . My question is does the type or brand of phone make much difference on its ability to get a signal and send a message? Or is the tower strength the only thing that affects the service ? Do they make a phone with a pull out antenna any more ?

Thanks

My work phone and my personal are AT&T and I will have no service on my work and 2 bars on my personal. The work phone is a Samsung flip phone and my personal is a IPhone 5 so the type of phone can make a difference. Our service was bad until a few years ago and I looked into boosters. It was something like a Yagi antenna on the outside that was hard wired to a booster inside to increase reception. You might want to get some friends or family over that have the carrier you would use and see if any of there phones have any luck picking up a signal. Check outside and inside and even upstairs if you have one. Good Luck

Historically Motorola and Nokia have had the best antennas. If you are mainly focussing on getting signal in your home get a signal booster. Lots of them out there. This won't help you when not at home though.

I haven't seen a phone with an extended antenna in a while.
