LP regulator fittings

Has anyone ever removed the inverted flare female fittings that come preinstalled on the auto changeover regulators? I needed them on my two hoses when I moved them to a standard regulator and manifolded my two into one with a tee. I noticed those two fittings looked like they have some type of spring loaded gizmo in them, but it doesn't really look strong enough to be any sort of a check/stop valve. I'm trying to eliminate all un-needed restrictions in my setup . Who knows what those spring parts are doing?

Yes- I took them out. A good friend is a gas guy and he confirmed they can come out. The weird thing is that mine are Mr Heater and MH doesn't have a tank hose that fits them, at least not that I could find. But yes, take them off.

Is this what you're talking about? I have the newer style regulator now and removed them from that one too.

The little cap at the top with the light springy thingy if it looks like the one below lets you know when the gas is on or off. Red off-green on.

That tells you the tank is empty, it switches automatically but its just a heads up for you to know you have an empty tank.
