LP regulator fittings

Has anyone ever removed the inverted flare female fittings that come preinstalled on the auto changeover regulators? I needed them on my two hoses when I moved them to a standard regulator and manifolded my two into one with a tee. I noticed those two fittings looked like they have some type of spring loaded gizmo in them, but it doesn't really look strong enough to be any sort of a check/stop valve. I'm trying to eliminate all un-needed restrictions in my setup . Who knows what those spring parts are doing?

Yes- I took them out. A good friend is a gas guy and he confirmed they can come out. The weird thing is that mine are Mr Heater and MH doesn't have a tank hose that fits them, at least not that I could find. But yes, take them off.full-32586-51806-img_0501.jpg
