Newer Lithium ion batteries?

These newer Lithium Ion batteries what kind of shelf or storage life do they have? Do they last longer than the old style?

Looking to buy a new drill and was going to back to a corded drill because with my old cordless the batteries were either dead or low and then wouldn't seem to have as much run time as I would like.

The ONLY cordless drill out there that I know that has the best batteries and replacement warranty is a RIGID. You can get them at the big orange box store. (You have to buy a combo kit with two or more batteries.) As long as you register the batteries they are replaced for FREE... FOREVER!! Just bring in your battery and charger to the store and they will make sure it is the battery and get you a new one!!!

Only way to go IMO.

Better check out the latest generation of Makita cordless drills, batteries and chargers. Pretty hard to beat. Just read the reviews.

I'm looking at a Dewalt 20v lithium-ion.

I had either a Makita or Ryobi before, it was blue, 12v. It was fine at first just drilled a little slower and eventually both batteries would die. After about 1-1/2 to 2 years then batteries were either dead, low or didn't last very long at all. Then I'd have to break out the old craftsman.

I was thinking it would have interesting to have an hour meter or how many holes it's drilled meter. It was a upper end Craftsman w/ keyless chuck and is about 15 yrs old, still working but somedays when it's getting a real workout you can start to smell the windings.

I work with both metal and wood and will drill 1/16"- 3/4" holes. Also hole saws up to 4".
