Tom7227
I was thinking about buying a new truck and one dealer told me that th 2.7 engine shuts down when you are stopped. How does the power equipment continue to work if the motor is shut off? My guess would be that it has some sort of elective motor to keep the belt running when the engine is off. But that seems to me to be a repair that will end up negating the gas savings if/when that motor goes kaput.
Redlineracer12
What power equipment? I don't think the serpentine belt would be turning when the engine stops, everything electronic would be running off the battery until the truck starts back up again. Its just a simple start/stop system, which have been around for years in luxury cars and are starting to make it to the mainstream. They up size the battery and alternator (generally) to accomodate the higher drain. The biggest knock on them is they can be a little "rough" when you hit the gas and the engine kicks back in, but I think they have been pretty reliable.BTW, all the early test drives have had nothing but good things to say about the new 2.7L EB. In fact a lot of the journalists are predicting sales of the 3.5 EB will go down, in favor of the 2.7 EB.
