Worm and lizards

Lost

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've got a ton of worms and lizards that I want to use for fishing this year. I want to prove that they are just as effective, if not more effective, than my friend's "nightcrawler only" attitude.

But my problem is that I don't know how to fish them. Do I slowly drag them across the bottom? Swim them? And where can I find the bass right now so I can use them?

lost. check a little ways down in this section , there is a topic about worms or lizards. yes they will work. a lizard can be fished almost any of the ways you want. we texas rig them and work them along weeds. you can swim them along shallow pts or use them on a carolina rig. if the bass have started spawning, then they will work well for bed fishing. you just need to determine where the bass may be and decide which rigging will do the job for you. del

Hi Lost,

Here is an easy, fun way to work those old lizards and worms.

First, buy some number 2,3, and 4 sized worm hooks. buy decent quality (Lazer Sharp, Gamatsu (sp?)). And some snap swivels.

WEIGHTLESS DOCK RIGS. Rig lizards (wiil work for worms) weightless for throwing under docks. Using a good spin cast rod and reel, take a #3 or 4 hook, attach to snap swivel. Hook the lizard "texas-rigged style" (do google search if you don't know how, it is very easy)

The big hook will let you cast 20 yards or so....it will also allow the lizard to sink SLOWLY to the bottom usually with a light spiral, through the strike zone..you can give the lizard a few quick jigs while raising the rod and then lower your tip...the lizrd will do the same slow fall.

Eventually you can skip the lizard (depending on how the thing is designed) underneath the docks...and the farther under the dock, the more fish you will get.
By the way, worms are hard to skip.

Just remember to be patience with the first "hit" during a bite. I have learned to lower my rod, wait a "1-count" then set the hook hard...in a sideways motion ...to pull the hook through the plastic and into the side of the mouth.

This is a blast. It is weedless. And can be used for any shallow or mid-depth area: Lily pads. You can fish it like a top water or hard jerk bait and twitch it back to the boat quickly when working pads. The go slowly through a second time.

If you do need weight for casting, just pinch some medium sixed round split shots onto it, about 6" to 12" ahead of the hook. Try it without, though.

Fish this around dock all summer...you will hook your share of fish.
