Bass weight and Length

as a general rule of thumb a 20" bass is supposed to be around 5 pounds. Last season I caught a fish that was 19.75 inches long and weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces (on an official scale). Just curiuos to see if anyone else has had any similar experiences in Minnesota. I would be really suprised if someone could beat that. The fish was released in good health.

I have really found this to be a lake to lake kinda thing. Some lakes seem to have larger stockier bodies. While some lakes seem to have longer slimmer bodies. Not sure, but I would assume it has something to do with genes and food...

I however can't beat you on that short a fish with that much weight... Yikes WHAT A FOOTBALL... Congrats on the piggie!

15 (or so years ago) I caught a 19 1/2" LM that topped out a 5 lb food scale. It had the middle of teh body on teh scale and that was it. When the taxidemist got he said it would push 6 lb.

Depending on the time of year also with the Pre / Post Span..

There are so many different factors that can come into play on whether or not a fish is porked out it's hard to limit it to just one thing. Although I tend to agree with the different bodies of water theory. I've fished down on Pool 4 a few times for smallies and the smallies that I've caught down there are ALL footballs.

Congrats on the fat belly lm! That is a pig - probably didn't look proportional... COOL! wink.gif
