Bino Harness / Backpack suggestions

Recommended Posts

Just got back from a trip to Colorado Elk hunting, with the nice weather this year I did a lot more hiking than I had planned on.

Looking to update to a backpack for carrying my extra gear but I also wear a bino harness, I'm wondering if anyone has a backpack that also has a built in bino harness?

I see there are a few options out there ranging from $10 ( add straps to an existing backpack ) to $500 ( fancy modular system ) but I'm not going to spend that much!

Opinions / Suggestions??

Thanks,

Mike

I have a Badlands scout pack. It is kind of small but that keeps me from bringing unnecessary things along and adding extra weight. I also have a Badlands Bino harness and love that as well. I often wear both the pack and bino harness at the same time, and with the neoprene straps it is very comfortable

I don't know of one with a built in harness, but I'm sure it could be done with a little sewing.

If you elect to not go that route, I have the KUIU harness which is great. If you have a sternum strap on your backpack, you just run it behind the binocular strap, and you can use your binoculars with no interference. A really nice thing about the KUIU harness is that it is a one handed operation to get your binoculars in and out, and there are two small pouches on the side for a wind checker and calls.

I'm wondering if the combo would be a hassle. If you want to shed your pack do you lose the bino straps too? I usually do the majority of glassing with the pack on the ground next to me. It would stink to have to wrestle the binocs off every time you drop the pack. Maybe I'm missing something on the design but my thoughts.

I just picked up the Eberlestock X2, Badlands Treestand, and Tenzing 2220 to compare and contrast, and I went with the X2. To be honest it wasn't really close (though admittedly the Treestand is meant to be a different kind of pack). The X2 is very flexible, can carry tons of stuff, and the way it can be opened up to hold large/bulky items is ingenious! I plan on using it to carry my Heater Body Suit and other bulky clothes out to the stand along with all of my regular gear.

Check it out - I think it's top-notch!
