Headed to the Big Pond this weekend for Smallies

Anyone been up recently? This will be our 1st time up there for bass. Looks as though it's going to be a NW wind so we will be fishing the northwest side of the lake.

Any tips besides "Don't eat yellow snow or brown in back and yellow in front?"

Thanks!

Lammboy,

Assuming you're putting in at Garrison launch, start right away to the south, pine point I think. Lots of different depth's and bars from 7-12ft. Cruise around the point and watch depth finder. Also check out Myr Mar area, lots of stuff. Garrison reef will get you deeper, could be good. Good luck and post your results. I've only been up there a couple of times with so-so results.

Thanks for the tips guys. Will let you know how it goes.

Bassfishin were you on the NW side of lake? I hear the SE end is best but with the wind coming in from the NW we won't feel safe being down on that end as I hear the waves can be pretty big.

No we were on the SE end. I saw the wind forecast on Tuesday calling for winds light and variable out of the SE so I took a day of PTO from work and headed up there. We fished a few different spots yesterday and only 1 produced. So running and gunning until you find an active school is probably the best thing you can do. I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time on a spot if you're not getting bit. The fish we found were absolute maniacs yesterday. So if there are fish on a spot they will bite. There was a time yesterday were I got 3 fish get off on 1 cast and finally stuck the 4th one that hit. It was a feeding frenzy but only last 2 hours or so and then nothing.

Rascal,

We launched out of Garrison and headed north to Myr Mar area. We started out shallow and eventually found them in about 8 - 12ft of water. Caught all of our fish on a Jerkbait or a KVD 1.5. Given we only caught 7 fish from 7am to 1pm but those 7 fish sure were fun to catch. We ended up leaving at 1pm to try a smaller lake but should have just drove down to the SE end as the wind changed directions and the SE end would have been perfect after 2pm.

Will definitely have to hit up Mille Lacs more next summer. This was the last outing for me this year in the boat.
