Are these Honeys or some some other random mushrooms growing on a log?

If they spore print white...."probably"...lol. I know where a ton of probablies are if someone wants them.....just cant say for sure. Your pic of the bottom sure does look like it, and as mentioned, if they print white, don't really know what else they could be. Will try them a day after you if you want grin Here are some more probablies that did come out white. Anyone out there ever eat them...is the taste worth the chance? I trash my liver enough....

I had some last year that spore printed white. I kept them in the refrigerator for a week before I chickened out and tossed them. I may give it a shot this year. I'm pretty sure they were scattered around while I picked these aborted entolomas.

They (aborted) seem like the craziest texture, I mean they are just.........I can't describe the internal texture. But what is the flavor? I've only had them pickled, and to be honest what isn't good pickled?

Not best pic, but since you have to open them up to see if they are not an amantia. ... they cook up just like popcorn shrimp. Ended up putting paprika on them to even almost give them the color of shrimp. Tossed them up with some noodles, butter, veggies and it was darn near shrimp scampi.

Why did you cut them open? Granted I guess they could be an Amanita but I know the ones I've found would have been hard pressed to be confused with one........welp I guess I just "have" to get into the woods again this week.

I'd never had them before and enjoyed them. At first I sautéed them like I would a morel and wasn't impressed. I left the rest cook until they were golden brown and they were much better. They'd be great with pasta like what Push did with them. I've got about 3 more pounds and am trying to decide what to do with them.

It was nice to be back out in the woods poking around. It's definitely more relaxing than being in the woods chasing big furry animals. I love that mushrooms can't run away from you.

Any brown bear where you were at?....think they even can chase after you!

Jp, guess I cut them in half because I was paranoid about eating something new for the first time, and always saw the disclaimers on the small gill-less mushrooms like these or small puffies that say to disect them to see if a fruiting body is forming in inside....as an immature amantia would. Have not seen one yet, and guess that is good smile

No brown bears, though we saw a brown colored black bear. A camp near us saw two big lions, though, and another guy we talked to stepped on a rattler. Check out the archery forum if you have some time to kill and want to read the story.

I did come across some lobster mushrooms while we were down there, but they were past prime. Was hoping for some kings but the weather preceding our hunt was too dry.
